How to Write a Book in Three Hours

Wondering if you've got it in you to write a book? Do you have three hours? Watch this youtube video and get inspired. This gentleman not only tells us, but walks us through the process of how he wrote his book in three hours. I worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for a while and I have thought of dictating my story into a recorder before and transcribing it myself. I just can't seem to find the quiet time to "talk" my story out. I'm constatnly surrounded by children. I would need a quiet space to talk my story out. I also kinda feel stupid when talking my story out loud. I have no idea why. I am more geared toward internal dialogue and letting it flow through my fingers out through the keyboard. I can type just about as fast as I can talk and there's a lot less ummm's and ahhh's. I can just see myself talking my story out: I'd be walking through the house talking into my recording app and the squeals of children would be in the background asking me what I'm doing or who I'm talking to, any my hubby would cast worried glanses at me while I'm having conversations out loud with myself! LOL! But this video may inspire you on how you could adapt and use this as a tool in your writing life. Enjoy! Blessings!

Story Boarding

Have you ever wondered how to get started writing your book? Do you have a head full of ideas and scenes, but no idea on how to put them together? Then this youtube tutorial may help. It's over the concept of Storyboarding. It's worth a watch. It'll give you a great overview on how story boarding is done and how to plot your book using Act I, Act II and Act II. After watching it I think you'll find that it's easier to figure out where your scenes need to go in your overall plot.

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am about the release of Underworld!

Meg Cabot's book Abandoned had been on my reading list for a while. I was able to grab a copy at my local library and I was blown away!
I have always loved greek mythology, especially the story of Hades. He's something dark, wild and unpredictable. Meg's take on his story of nabbing his lady love is fresh, interesting and had me hooked from Chapter 1. I devoured the novel in a day and night and gave it 5 stars. I wanted more and I'm soooo happy to find out that the sequel is being released.

There's nothing better than counting down to a book release you're dying to read! LOL! Seriously, get the books. Check out the author's web site also for more info on this upcoming release!

Blessings!

Technology and Ceremonies

Hello All,
I've been working on organizing and putting together a Power Point Slide Show for my children's Promotion Ceremony. What's a Promotion Ceremony?
If you don't know already, I homeschool my three children and participate in a local co-op. We meet each week with the other homeschool families enrolled in the co-op. The Mom's teach classes and the kids take them. It's just like school except our subjects probably have more variety than a traditional public school. My children love it! They get to hang out with other children from all different ages and backgrounds and learn new and exciting subjects from other Mom's. The Mom's in our co-op are terrific! They have different educational backgrounds and different walks of life, but are all united in furthering the educational experience of our children and unite together to give them the best experiences! We have a Mechanical Engineer, two nurses, two of our volunteers have Doctorates, and we have Mom's who have amazing life experience in raising large families which is a degree all in it's own!
We offer all sorts of classes from Sewing (where children learn to use a sewing machine) and complete projects such as blankets, aprons, purses, etc to Botany studying the growth and life of plants, to our High Schoolers who get some of their credits from Biology and Speech Class.
We run during the typical school year with the summers off. We take field trips together, have play dates, and uplift each other. We are a community in itself and I am so grateful to be a part of it! We are putting on a Promotion Ceremony this year for our children to mark the memorable event of what our students have accomplished!
Many of us go year round with homeschooling so there is not a set start point and stop point, and this Ceremony is a way for us take a moment out and uplift our children and bless them. It gives them a sense of accomplishment of all their hard work and for the Mom's too!
I am in charge of putting the technical program together and it took me a week and three different programs and two computers to do, but I finally got it done!!!! I felt like I was on top of the world, when I finished it!! I love technology, computers, ipods, ipads, Macs, programs, cell phones etc. But when you're working with software it seems to never get along well...there's always something that butts heads with something else. It's like looking at a complex jig-saw puzzle. If you study it hard enough, the pieces will click (it just takes a while sometime). Putting the slideshow together was like that for me. I didn't give up and kept at it and when I finally got it going, I felt wonderful like I had truly accomplished something! (LOL!!)
The Ceremony is tomorrow. My family is coming in for it and we are celebrating my youngest's birthday! It's gonna be a BIG day!!! Can't wait!!!
Say a prayer I manage to get through it without blowing anything up! The soundboard kinda scares me!

Friday, March 30, 2012

Ok, guys I admit it. It's March 30th and I have made 0% progress on my March Madness goals. If you read my post earlier, I was so excited to discover March Madness and was hyped up about participating. I even got so far as posting what I'd like to accomplish over the month of March. I was set to go, but little did I realize when I signed up the madness March was about to unleash on me.
My 3 year old had just had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy a few days prior and I thought that recovery would be rough, but over in a week like they said. Little did I know, they weren't brutally honest and that, it would actually be TERRIFYING and take the entire 3 weeks before she felt like herself again. So I didn't get any writing done during this time. I also got tied up in my activities of yearbook coordinaton and helping coordinate the Promotion Ceremony for my children's homeschool co-op. It takes a lot of time to do stuff like that. I had no idea. I enjoy it, but I didn't factor in the actual time involved and it has to be done, it's not something I can put off. And now, I find myself packed and ready to embark on a camping trip with my children's Girl Scout's troop. I hate camping, but I love my girls. And it's taken me time out to get ready for it and zapped up my little bit of time reaminig in March, but in this season of my life, my children come first and I need to do for them what they need done, even if it costs me time to write.
This post isn't all about excuses about me telling why I did't meet my goals for March. It's a realization, that I can only do so much. Sometimes we underestimate our time and resources and overestimate what we can do. It's good to keep a dose of reality in front of our faces. And humbling. And that is why when I do find time to sit down and write. I may not get a chance to write as much as I want or accomplish all the goals I set for myself, but at least I will carry all my experiences with me into my words as I write them down. It will make my work better. So I'm gonna not beat myself up for losing March Madness, but rejoice over what I have accomplished and try to accomplish them next month.  The turtle won the race by one steady step at a time. I too can get to my goals, it may just take me a little bit longer. :-)

Have a great Weekend!

Blessings!
